BARTHEL AN MEANS QUINNELLY, Barty, a 12-year warrior of kidney cancer, passed peacefully on December 26 at Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC. Her daughters, Allyson and Quinn, and their husbands, John and Sean, were at her side.

Barty was born in Atlanta, GA on September 20, 1942. She was a loving mother of five children and at the age of 40, went back to school. She secured her undergraduate from Georgia State University and graduated from Emory School of Law in pursuit of her dream as a lawyer. Barty practiced law as an Assistant District Attorney in Miami-Dade County, FL for 20 years before she retired to Pinehurst in 2007. Barty was a passionate traveler to Italy and France.

She is survived by her Uncle and Aunt, Bob and Terri Stanton family of Temecula, CA. Her siblings: Al (Mary Jo) Means of Palm Desert, CA; Bo (Sherry) Means of Atlanta, GA; Patricia Hicks of Atlanta, GA; and Bobby (Isabella) Means of Birmingham, AL. Barty’s children: Dan (Mollie) of Peachtree Corners, GA; Allyson (John) Dennis of Cameron, NC; Bo (Julie) of Suwanee, GA; Caroline (Eric) Tindall of Asheville, NC; and Quinn (Sean) Gailey of Whispering Pines, NC. Barty’s beloved grandchildren: Rachel, Ryan, Justin (Alexa), Nick, Grace, Stanton (Trey), Stafford, Berklie, Brighton, Emerson, Allyson, Katie, Regan and one great-grandson, Maxton.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst on January 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. A celebration of Barty’s life will immediately follow in the parish hall. A private graveside service will be in Hilton Head, SC for the family at a later date.

 In lieu of flowers, donations to Kidney Cancer Research-Duke Medical Center in Barty’s name are appreciated.
