Allen Stanley Ashdown, Sr., 92 of Pinehurst, NC, passed away on Friday, March 1st 2024, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital with his wife and children at his side.
Allen was born on August 30, 1931 in Roosevelt, New York. His family later moved to Merrick, New York where he graduated from Mepham High School in 1949. There, he met his beautiful bride to be and they were married January 9, 1954. After serving 32 years in the US Navy including Submarines, he retired in San Diego, CA and later moved to Pinewild in Pinehurst, NC in 1993.
He loved almost all sports but particularly the games of baseball, softball, golf and bowling (which he was proud of his 300 game at the Sandhills Bowling Center). Allen was active locally in Pinehurst Senior Games, The Military Officers Association, and The Village Chapel.
Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very sweet, charitable and caring man. He leaves behind family and many friends who will miss him greatly.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, sister and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Edith Harriet Ashdown; sons; Allen Ashdown, Jr., Robert Ashdown (wife Virginia), and daughters; Debra Parker, Laura Ashdown.
