Betty Lou Monroe, age 92, died Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Joseph of the Pines.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines. The family will receive friends immediately before the service from noon to 1 PM.
Betty was a 1944 graduate of Southern Pines High School. She married Leroy Monroe of Manly, who preceded her in death in 2010. Betty worked in the banking business and later retired from CP&L as an Administrative Assistant. She had a great love for her faith, family, and friends. She was a leader in her church and community. She loved sports, especially football and NASCAR. Betty always had a smile on her face that would make anyone feel welcomed.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Monroe and his wife Linda of Clayton, NC, a daughter, Sheryl Phillips of Aberdeen, NC, grandchildren: Jonathan Thackston of San Diego, CA, Julie Thompson of Fuquay Varina, NC, Lee Holcomb of Sugar Hill, GA, great grandchildren: Chelsey and Eric Thackston both of Jacksonville, FL, Mykala Thackston of San Diego, CA, sisters: Jean Boney of Atlanta, GA, Margie Brown of Austin, TX, Joyce Proffer of Seymour, IN, nephews: Billy Boney of Mauldin, SC, Mark Brown of Pflugerville, TX, David and Donnie Proffer both of Seymour, IN, nieces: Kay Moore of Tampa, FL, Joy Proffer of Seymour, IN, and a host of extended family.
