Obituary for Daniel Young Bowers Jr. of West End

Daniel Young Bowers, Jr., 68 years young, of West End, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at FirstHealth Hospice House, with his wife by his side.

Danny was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 23, 1957, to the late Daniel Bowers, Sr., and Shirley McGlohon Bowers. Danny was an older brother to Donna B. Burr, and the definite bigger headache of that duo. Ask literally anyone. Danny grew up with a love for sports, and that carried on to the last second as his television played ESPN the morning of. Danny’s love for all things sports led him to a truly cherished time refereeing high school football. If you ever went to an away game with him, the entire ride home was self-critique, hoping he got it right for the kids. He loved caddying. The talking and shooting the breeze were right down his wheelhouse. If you knew Danny, you knew he had a love for motorcycles. It was nothing for him to hop on his bike, and in a few short hours be a few states away. Danny was able to experience trips to Sturgis and Daytona on multiple occasions.

Danny loved his family. He was so proud of his wife, Ann Turner. Pride beamed from his eyes when he introduced her to anyone. He was a good father, and always loved as hard as he could, the best that he could. Danny will be missed by many, but if you knew him by some not so much. That’s the way he would want it.

He was an amazing salesman, sold cars and motorcycles, started two restaurants and sports bars, and one bar. He absolutely helped get SAES up and running. He loved to travel, especially to Myrtle Beach. That is where he was married, on the beach. You never knew what he would say; he had no filter and could get away with saying things most people couldn’t. He loved to ride his motorcycle and got to go to Sturgis twice, Daytona, and Myrtle Beach bike weeks a number of times.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Ann Turner; children, Daniel Bowers, III (Lauren) of Monroe, Will Bowers (Anna) of Jackson Springs, Jill Edwards of Pinehurst, Maggie Bowers (fiancé Bo Kendall) of Wadesboro; grandchildren, Lily, Ella Ray, Kaitlyn, Calia; sister Donna B. Burr of Wadesboro; stepdaughter Shelly Poindexter (Michael) Iron River Michigan, and children Eliza Lucerno of Denver, Co., and Josiah Poindexter (Allison) Warren, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to youth athletics.
