Dorothy Tillson Young, 92, of Pinehurst passed peacefully Tuesday, January 8th, 2019, at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Village Chapel with Chaplain John Jacobs and Chaplain Ashley Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Hall following the service. 

Mrs. Young was born in Worcester, MA, the daughter of Mildred and David E. Tillson. A 1948 graduate of Bates College, Mrs. Young was a Special Needs and First Grade Teacher in Naugatuck, CT. She taught Second Grade for many years with the Cumberland County Public School System while living in Farmville, Virginia. She also taught second grade while living in Dublin, GA.

Mrs. Young was a member of the Village Chapel since 1983, where she was a Shepherd for over 15 years. She was a member of the Chippers Club, the Pinehurst Encore Club, and a volunteer at Moore Regional Hospital for over 33 years. Mrs. Young also enjoyed line dancing with the Moore County Senior Center for more than 10 years. Mrs. Young was also a member of the Pinehurst Country Club since 1977.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Arthur Clark Young, Jr of Pinehurst, NC and her twin brother Donald B. Tillson of Worcester, MA. Mrs. Young was the devoted mother of four daughters: Carole T. Young-Kleinfeld of Wilton, CT, Cathy Clark Ellis of Comptche, CA, Pamela Sue Young of Pinehurst, NC, and Kimberlee Young Berner of Pinehurst, NC. Mrs. Young also leaves four beloved grandchildren, Zachary Andrew Kleinfeld, Emily Young McDaniel, Michaela Clark Ellis, and Rachel Ziegler Berner. In addition, she leaves beloved sons-in-law Neil Kleinfeld and George Ellis, and beloved grand-daughter-in-law Liz Kleinfeld.
