Hert Lee Hancock, Jr., 99, of Southern Pines, passed away at home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
Mr. Hancock was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Coast Guard and US Navy. He continued his service as a civilian government employee for the Navy Department until his retirement. In 2020, Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Delores Ann. He is survived by his three daughters, one son, and their families including 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Lee was an avid golfer until his mid-90s belonging to clubs in Northern Virginia; Naples, FL; Whispering Pines and Pinehurst, NC. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife at Arlington National Cemetery with a family celebration of his life.
