Ila Mae Williams, 90, passed away on March 20, 2019 at her home in Penick Village with family by her side.
Ila was born on December 1, 1928, to Edward and Della Blank and spent her childhood in Neenah, Wisconsin with her two sisters, Lotus and Audrey.
After graduating from high school, she married DeLyle Redmond, an Army Lieutenant. Within the next 28 years, she managed 20 moves to 11 different States and 3 different countries (Japan, Germany, and Iran) as an officer’s wife.
When Ila wasn’t packing or unpacking, she raised 3 children, had several different jobs over the years: swim coach, store decorator, office manager, manager of the Army wives’ club, and Chapel Hill police officer!
In 1978, Ila married Edward “Bucky” Williams. They enjoyed many happy years in Sanford, NC, where Bucky owned WSW Fabric Center. Ila worked tirelessly to ensure it’s continued success, managing the notions portion of the business. She was a master seamstress who designed, sewed and dressed all the mannequins in Bucky’s 16 stores.
In retirement, Ila and Bucky moved to Penick Village in Southern Pines, NC, to be near their beloved daughter, Sharron Wood. They kept very active with all the wonderful events around Southern Pines and Pinehurst.
Ila is predeceased by her husband, Bucky, and her daughter, Sharron. She is survived by her sisters Audrey and Lotus, son Michael Redmond, daughter Kay (Dean) Jorden and grandsons Will and Brett.
A service was held in the Chapel at Penick Village in Southern Pines, March 22, 2019.
