Man accused of driving stolen ambulance from Randolph to Moore hospitals

An Eagle Springs man is accused of stealing an ambulance in Randolph County and driving it about 50 miles to Pinehurst early Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, Randolph County EMS crews were dropping off a patient shortly before 6 a.m. at Randolph Health in Asheboro when Allen Morgan, 27, allegedly entered the ambulance and stole the vehicle.

Police said Morgan drove the ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital while patrol cars were following him on Highway 211. The ambulance was recovered at the hospital with minor damage. No injuries were reported.

A motive has not been given at this time.

Morgan’s secured bond was set at $15,000, and he faces multiple charges, including felony larceny of a motor vehicle, felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle. He is also charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer, misuse of the 911 system, hit and run with property damage, driving while license revoked, and several traffic violations, including failure to stop at a red light, driving the wrong way on a dual-lane road, and failure to maintain lane control.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
