Jimmy C. “J.C.” Smith died peacefully on December 2, 2024 with family by his side. He was born October 29, 1942 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Gaither C. and Katherine Smith. He earned a Master’s in Education from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, OK and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Arkansas. This set him on a path to become a life-long learner. He was a middle school teacher early in his career and retired from the State Department of Education in Oklahoma City. He married his wife Jane on June 20, 1987 and they enjoyed a wonderful life together. They moved to Pinehurst in 2018 so that Jane could be closer to her family. He loved riding motorcycles, reading, gardening and helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Glenn. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane, his son Matt (Terri) of Ocala, FL, great nephew Dustin Hemenway of Muskogee, OK, and a great niece Crystal Hemenway of Muskogee, OK. He is also survived by many cousins in Oklahoma and Jane’s family in North Carolina and Oklahoma. He loved his nieces and nephews by marriage, but wanted to give a special thank-you to Linda F. for her love, support and helpfulness.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:30 PM, Friday, December 6, 2024 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines with Rev. David Priddy officiating.
