Kathleen “Kay” (O’Connor) Gumbleton, age 93, of Southern Pines, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice House.
Kathleen was born December 10, 1930 in Detroit to the late John Henry O’Connor and Levina Cecila Dougherty. Kathleen grew up in Royal Oak, MI and graduated from Shrine High School in 1949. She was married to James Gumbleton in February of 1958 and was happily married for 61 years until his passing in September 2019. Kathleen and James moved to Southern Pines in 1993 after James retired from General Motors to enjoy golf and the wonderful Southern Pines Community.
She is survived by her four children, Richard James of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Mark Anthony and wife Angela of Riverside, CA; Laura Flanagan and husband James of Royal Oak, MI; and Gary Patrick and wife Mica of Riverside, CA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Services will be held at a future date in Detroit.
