Obituary Kenneth Jay Keating

Kenneth Jay Keating, of Cary, NC and formerly of Southern Pines, NC passed away peacefully on September 24th, 2020.

He was born on April 21, 1933 in Kearny, NJ to the late Clifton and Ethel Schaffer Keating.

Ken graduated from Glen Ridge High School, New Jersey in 1950 and from the University of Vermont in 1954.  He married Jean F. Lennox in 1955.  He served in the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps.  After his military service he had a successful thirty-one-year career with Eastman Kodak Co., retiring in 1988 as Director of Office Operations.  After his retirement, he continued his passion with various financial service activities.

Throughout his life, Ken was a very active volunteer.  He led several Membership and Capital Fund drives for the Monroe County YMCA in Rochester, NY; served as Commissioner, Coach, Referee and Umpire in numerous “Little League” programs, and volunteered at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC for ten years.  An avid traveler, he visited all fifty states, six continents, and attended more than thirty Elderhostel programs around the country.  Ken also enjoyed golf and bridge.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Jean Lennox Keating and great grandson, Jack Heiligman.

Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Heiligman (Dan) of Webster, NY; sons, Kenneth Jr. (Priscilla) of Cary, NC and Robert (Toni) of Lake of the Woods, VA; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and his sister Carol Mayer of San Rafael, CA.
