Obituary for Margaret Williams of Southern Pines

Margaret “Gail” Williams, age 77, of Southern Pines, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC with family by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00am at Bible Tabernacle Church in Carthage with a time of visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am.  A private burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Gail was born on May 18, 1947 in Moore County to the late Willie Henry and Lily Ruth Thompson Williams. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Carmen Prevatte, Jean Harrigan, Bernice Goodwin, Martha Moore and brother, Brian Williams.

She was a lifelong member of Bible Tabernacle Church, attending as long as she was physically able. She worked at Reeves Nursery for a number of years before joining Jellison Press where she worked until she retired.  In addition, she was a favorite babysitter for many children through the years, giving generously of her time. Though unassuming by nature, her fun and loving personality endeared her to both the children and their families.

Playing cards and other games were favorite pastimes, as were word puzzles and computer games.  She particularly enjoyed countless games of cards with her friends and siblings. As much as she enjoyed winning those games, she enjoyed those she played with more.

Gail gave willingly and generously to her family and friends.  Her smile and easy laughter will be treasured memories in the hearts of those she loved.

She is survived by her sisters, Iris McDonald of Aberdeen, Ruth Carolyn Mayzik of Southern Pines, Hazel Ann Short of Pinebluff, Deanna Williams Johnson (Carl) of Carthage; brother, Rodney Williams (Barbara) of Foxfire and a host of nieces and nephews.
