Obituary for Raymond George Freeman of Carthage

Raymond “Ray” George Freeman, age 78, of Carthage, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 16, 2024 surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 11:00am at Cox Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home from 10:00 until 11:00. Burial will follow in Candor Cemetery in Candor.

Ray was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee on September 14, 1945 to the late Raymond and Viola Mitchell Freeman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Freeman, step-child, Angela “Sissy” Martatos, grandson, Dylan Sweat.

Ray enjoyed riding motorcycles, going fishing with family and especially with his grandkids. He was an avid NASCAR fan. He proudly served his country in the US Army and spent a career as a truck driver and a security officer at National #9. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Sweat; daughter, Raeangela Freeman (Marc) of Kansas; step-children, Raymond Sweat (Cheryl) of Florida, Richard Furr of Whispering Pines, Daryl Sweat (Pam) of Goldsboro, Amber Mills (Bobby) of Cameron, David Smith (Adessa) of Carthage; sister, Charlene Johnson (William) of Tennessee; brothers, Donald Freeman (Barbara) of Tennessee, Jerry Freeman (Donna) of Tennessee; fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
