Samuel Clair Hartsell, 75 of Carthage passed on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Hartsell was born November 30, 1944 in Moore County to the late Roy Samuel Hartsell and Clara Livingston Hartsell. He graduated from Pinehurst High School in 1963.  After graduation, he enlisted and served in the US Marines as an engineer serving in Puerto Rico. He then attended Piedmont Bible College and Central Carolina Community College obtaining his nursing degree. He became a contract nurse working in Alaska, Florida, California and later at Central Carolina Hospital and Moore Memorial now FirstHealth. He served as pastor for many years and was the founder of Victory Baptist Church. He also preached at Cornerstone Baptist and was later a member of Deep Creek Baptist.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy Blake Hartsell; A daughter, Joy Denise Dykstra and husband Richard of Anchorage, AK; Two sons, Jeffrey Monroe Hartsell and wife Stella of Lexington, NC; and Samuel Jason Hartsell of Carthage, NC; A sister, Mary “Betsy” Elizabeth; Two brothers, Lloyd Hartsell, and Victor Hartsell; Three grandchildren, Joshua Hartsell, Nicholas Hartsell, and Jesse Dykstra.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in memory of Mr. Hartsell to the Deep Creek Baptist Church.
