Mary Barry Rintoul Ellis, 82, of Seven Lakes West passed away peacefully Sunday, December 10, 2017, at Quail Haven Village. Barry was born on January 26, 1935 in Greenwich, Connecticut. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1956. She married George Edward Ellis in 1957, and they lived in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey until retiring to Seven Lakes, North Carolina in 1994. Barry worked as a librarian for the Franklin Lakes public library for 20 years. She and George raised three sons, Robert Edward Ellis, John Dana Ellis, and Richard William Ellis, all of whom served their country as officers in the military.

Barry spent her summers in Essex, NY where her parents, Stephen Rich Rintoul and Mary Barry Rintoul, had a summer camp on Lake Champlain and where she and George later purchased their own camp on the lake. Her children and grandchildren continue to summer there. An outdoor enthusiast, Barry enjoyed tennis, golf, gardening, walking and bird watching.

Barry is survived by her husband of 60 years, George; her three sons Robert of Clifton Park, NY, Dana of Norwood, NJ, and Richard of Kennett Square, PA; her six grandchildren Shimrit, Adam, Emma, Delaney, Ethan, Tucker and Grace; her great-grandchild Hila; her brother Robert Rintoul and numerous nieces and nephews. Barry is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Stephen Rintoul and sister Nancy Rintoul.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (ALZ.org) would be appreciated.

All are welcome to celebrate Barry’s life with her family at her and George’s home at 123 Callis Circle, Seven Lakes West, NC on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 2pm-5pm. A memorial service and scattering of ashes will take place in Essex, NY in the summer of 2018.
