One critical in Pinebluff accident

One person was airlifted to a trauma center in critical condition, and two others, including a child, were injured after a rollover accident in Pinebluff Monday morning.

The accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 1 and Thunder Road. The accident completely shut down southbound traffic on U.S. 1.

The accident occurred when a sedan came across the highway into the path of the Hyundai Elantra, according to officials on the scene.

The impact caused the sedan to roll over sending the car off the road and landing upside down. The female driver and a 5-year-old girl were in the sedan. The Elantra was also off the road and was occupied by just the driver.

Emergency crews immediately called for a helicopter for the female driver of the sedan. Aberdeen Fire & Rescue set up a landing zone at the Pinebluff ball field on Currant Street. A helicopter from Cape Fear Valley landed and transported the woman to UNC Hospitals Trauma Center in Chapel Hill.

The child in the sedan and the driver of the other vehicle were transported by EMS to FirstHealth Moore Regional with non-life-threatening injuries.

Rockwell Towing responded and removed the overturned sedan.

N.C. Highway Patrol was on the scene and is investigating the exact cause of the accident.

Responding to the scene were Pinebluff Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, Pinebluff Police, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
