The O’Neal School held its 42nd commencement on Friday, May 25th in Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College. The commencement was preceded by a baccalaureate service at Brownson Presbyterian Church on Thursday, May 24th

At commencement, Class Salutatorian Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Mr. Dargan Moore and Ms. Janet Trent delivered the invocation. Class Valedictorian Sophia Renner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Renner, addressed the graduates. Robert Haarlow was the commencement speaker. Mr. Haarlow was the first headmaster for the School when it was founded in 1971 and served O’Neal for 14 years.

The class of 2018, consisting of 23 students, so far has amassed a dollar amount of $1,128,000 in merit-based scholarships. Seven students applied and were accepted early decision for college destinations such as Boston University, Northeastern University, Colorado College and Davidson College.

Three students have committed to play a sport. Toyin Koleoso will be playing basketball for Skidmore College. Alana McRae will be running track and field for Cincinnati Christian University with athletic scholarship and Ellie Henry will be swimming for the College of William and Mary.
