Pinewild home destroyed in fire

A home in the Pinewild community in Pinehurst was destroyed in a fire on Thursday evening. The fire was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. when a 911 caller indicated that flames had erupted in the garage on Lasswade Drive and quickly grew out of control.

Fire departments from across the county responded to the call in an attempt to battle the intense blaze. According to initial reports, the first engine from the Pinehurst Fire Department to arrive on the scene noted “heavy black smoke visible from Linden Road.”

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the fire had rapidly grown fully involved, with flames engulfing the entire structure. The homeowners and their pets managed to escape safely without any injuries.

Though the house itself was beyond saving, firefighters had to adopt defensive measures to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is currently under investigation. Neighbors in the area reported to Sandhills Sentinel that they heard a loud “pop” before seeing flames in the garage area of the house.
