A pregnant woman was airlifted after a two-vehicle crash in Pinebluff on Tuesday evening. The collision, which happened shortly before 5 p.m., resulted in heavy damage to both vehicles and left the pregnant woman’s vehicle overturned in the median.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol told Sandhills Sentinel that the driver of a Ford Escape, traveling southbound on U.S. 1, slowed to make a left turn onto Ryder Cup Boulevard. A Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the Escape from behind, causing it to spin and flip onto its side.
The driver of the Escape, who is six months pregnant, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated from her vehicle by emergency units.
A landing zone for aircare was established at Pinebluff Park. The driver of the Ford was evaluated on-site before being flown to UNC Hospital as a precaution. Authorities confirmed she was experiencing pain but did not specify the extent of her injuries.
The driver of the Jeep was uninjured.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Emergency units from Pinebluff, Aberdeen, and Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, along with the Moore County Sheriffās Department, Highway Patrol, and Moore County EMS, responded to the scene.
