Road closes after Aberdeen crash

A two-vehicle crash closed Sand Pit Road near Highway 5 in Aberdeen on Tuesday afternoon, causing traffic delays in the area.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a Toyota Highlander was traveling north when it crossed the centerline and collided with a Chevy pickup truck.

The drivers of the vehicles were trapped due to the damage from the impact. Aberdeen firefighters were able to free them.

The driver of the Chevy was transported to the hospital to be checked for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, but troopers say was cited for crossing the centerline.
