Robbins woman dies in crash

A woman from Robbins died Friday in a head-on collision.

Carolyn Hussey, age 75, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Talc Mine Road about two miles outside of Robbins. The crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m. shutting down Talc Mine Road for several hours.

Hussey was heading south in a Lincoln SUV when she was hit head-on by a man driving a Toyota van.

According to the accident report from N.C. State Highway Patrol, the man was traveling north when he ran off the right side of the road, over-corrected, and crossed the centerline hitting Hussey’s vehicle head-on. Both drivers were trapped and had to be extricated by Robbins Fire and Rescue.

The man was transported by Moore County EMS to Moore Regional Hospital where he was later flown to an area trauma center. The extent of his injuries isn’t known at this time.

Charges are pending against the man, but the accident is still an active investigation by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Also responding to the scene were Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Moore County Public Safety.
