Moore County Schools Friday released a drone video showing the construction progress of McDeeds Creek Elementary School.

The school, located on Camp Easter Road, in Southern Pines, will be led by Principal Dr. Molly Capps.

The school is being built to relieve overcrowding at Vass-Lakeview and Sandhills Farm Life Elementary Schools.  According to Moore County Schools, the building will be 113,772 sq. ft and will house kindergarten through fifth grade students.

The first class of students will be around 540 students. The school has a capacity of 800 students, and the initial class has been limited to allow greater flexibility as additional schools open.

The classroom wings in the school will have plenty of windows to allow natural light in each classroom. Moore County Schools said, “This daylight design will save energy and has been proven to promote student success and reduce absenteeism.”

The school will also be set up to “provide opportunists for self-guided learning and team-teaching strategies.”

McDeeds Creek Elementary is scheduled to open in August.
