On March 10, Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency for North Carolina due to the coronavirus outbreak. At this time, public health officials do not recommend canceling schools as children appear to be at low risk for the virus.
However, in an abundance of caution, Moore County Schools is suspending all extracurricular activities, school and district events beginning Saturday, March 14 through Monday, April 6. This decision follows an announcement by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association to suspend all athletics, including workouts and practices, over the same time period. Moore County Schools administration will continue to evaluate the situation over the next several weeks and provide updates as additional information develops.
All out-of-district field trips are canceled effective immediately until further notice.
Out-of-district travel by staff is suspended effective immediately through April 6.
Any decision to close schools will be made in collaboration with the Moore County Health Department.
