Severe storms rolled through Moore County Monday morning leaving damage to several homes, cars, and down power lines in its wake.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning that expired at 7:45 a.m. A tornado watch for the entire central North Carolina area is in effect until noon. A wind advisory is also in effect until 4 p.m.
Whispering Pines home was damaged by down limbs during Monday’s storm.
Over 13,000 Moore County homes were without electricity in the early morning hours. First responders were busy with over 200 storm damage calls, according to Moore County Public Safety.
Most of Whispering Pines lost power. Trees were knocked down on power lines in multiple areas, and several roads were closed.
Along Niagara Carthage Road, wind gusts caused trees to fall on homes, a car, and blocked multiple driveways in a half-mile stretch toward the Vass Carthage Road intersection.
Roads were closed in Whispering Pines.
According to Raleigh news outlets, tornados touched down in Orange and Alamance counties.
Governor Roy Cooper Sunday urged North Carolinians to be prepared for the incoming strong storms.
