Shirley W. Clodfelter Primary School opens on SCCS campus

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, Sandhills Classical Christian School (SCCS) celebrated the opening of its newest academic building. The new Shirley W. Clodfelter Primary School was commemorated with a dedication ceremony and ribbon-cutting event.

The completion of the new building is a significant milestone for SCCS, as it allows the school to meet the rapidly growing need for student accommodations in Moore County.

“The addition of this new academic building will allow us to increase enrollment across the board to help meet the demand for Christian education in our community,” explained Gene Liechty, director of advancement at SCCS. “The addition of this new building will free-up space in our existing academic buildings so that we can grow to an enrollment capacity of 700 students in grades K-12 on the Rays Bridge Road campus.”

The new building, which will serve as the home for 162 students in grades K-2, was constructed in just seven months by Rhetson Companies after breaking ground at the beginning of the year.

The dedication ceremony included short speeches from a host of speakers, including Dell Cook, head of school at SCCS; Jamie Encinosa, vice chair of the SCCS Board of Directors; Linda Parsons, president of the Moore County Chamber of Commerce; and Timothy Clodfelter, representing the Clodfelter family.

“With the entrance into the Shirley Clodfelter Primary School, we enter the 25th year of providing an excellent classical education grounded in a biblical worldview,” said Dell Cook. “That span has seen a great deal of change, development, and growth; and through it all God has been faithful to provide for all our needs. Twenty-five years on, we are committed to the original vision and mission of the founders of the school to disciple the minds, hearts, bodies, and souls of students into true and faithful humanity.”

The increased space will allow the school to continue expanding, with plans already in place to construct another building, Trinity Hall. This future 17,000-square-foot facility will house a library, middle school classrooms, and an administrative suite, ultimately increasing the school’s capacity to 780 students.

Classes for the 2024-2025 school year began on Monday, Aug. 12, and students and teachers have already been putting their new building to good use.
