A home burned in Robbins shortly after 7 p.m. Friday night. Authorities were alerted to the incident on Yellow Poplar Lane after neighbors reported a nearby home on fire.
The residence is located at the end of a long dirt road, but firefighters were able to reach the scene and prevent the flames from spreading to nearby properties. Crews worked in cold, dark conditions to bring the fire under control.
Authorities on scene told Sandhills Sentinel that no one was home when the fire broke out, and that no people or pets were harmed.
The home, however, was heavily damaged, displacing a family just ahead of the winter storm forecasted to move through Moore County this weekend.
Authorities say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
In advance of winter weather, residents are urged to use caution when operating space heaters, fireplaces, and heat lamps, as improper use can increase the risk of residential fires.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Robbins, Westmoore, and High Falls, along with units from neighboring Randolph County. Moore County EMS and the Moore County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
