Small chicken coop fire disrupts a quiet Thursday afternoon

Smoke billowed into the cloudy skies just after noon on Thursday for a small fire in what seemed to be a chicken coop in West End.

Multiple fire departments were paged to Bowman Road for a small structure fire behind a home. Luckily, no one was at the structure at the time of the fire, and no one was injured. According to a firefighter who spoke to Sandhills Sentinel, he didn’t think any chickens were injured.

Fire marshals arrived on the scene shortly after the call went out to investigate and determine the cause of the fire.

At 12:45 p.m., the fire was still burning, and firefighters worked diligently to suppress the flames to prevent them from spreading to nearby homes.

Pinebluff, West End, and Aberdeen fire departments were on the scene, as well as Moore County Sheriff’s Department and Moore County EMS to assist with any emergency operations.

At approximately 1 p.m., the fire looked to have been extinguished to a small amount of smoke, and departments began clearing the scene.
