A smoke detector saved a man’s life as it woke him up Sunday morning to find his two-story home on fire.  He entered a second floor bedroom in his Pinebluff home to warn another resident of the danger when he found her bed on fire; however, she was not in the room.  The man tried to extinguish the blaze but was unsuccessful due to the size of the fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene at 12:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Current Street and immediately search for the female resident. Firefighters were able to confirm she was not at home.  Crews were able to contain the flames to the second story and attic area of the house.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters responding to the scene were Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Pinebluff Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, and Southern Pines Fire & Rescue. Also assisting at the fire were Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office.
