Southern Pines man arrested on assault charges

Kenneth Stroud, 57, of Southern Pines, was arrested on charges of assault. 

On Monday, Jan. 16, Aberdeen Police Department arrested Stroud in connection with an alleged domestic dispute on Sunday, Jan. 15 at AmeriVu Inn and Suites in Aberdeen, formally Super 8 Motel. 

The female victim, whose name and age have not been released, was allegedly held at the motel by Stroud and not allowed to leave, according to Aberdeen Police Department. She suffered injuries and was taken to the hospital; the extent of her injuries is unknown at this time.

Aberdeen Police Department charged Stroud with felony assault on individual with a disability, assault by strangulation, assault to inflict serious injury, assault on a female, and false imprisonment. 

Stroud was placed in the Moore County Detention Center under a $15,000 secured bond.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, a bonds company charged Stroud for possession of a controlled substance, abuse on a disabled elder with injury, and assault on a female. These charges resulted in an additional $30,000 secured bond. It is unclear at this time if these charges are related to the incident in Aberdeen or from a previous bond. 

Stroud is currently detained in the Moore County Detention Center, is due in court on Jan. 23 and Feb. 6 and is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
