The Southern Pines Police Department welcomes K-9 Jacky, the newest member of the Department’s K-9 Unit.
Jacky is a three year old Labrador Retriever, who comes to the Southern Pines Police Department from Backa Palanks, Serbia where he was born on May 4, 2014. Jacky was initially trained at the K-9 Proving Ground in Cresco, Pennsylvania. Jacky and his handler, Master Police Officer Michael Glover, underwent intensive training together to be certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association. K-9 Jacky’s training and certifications include obedience, narcotics detection, article/evidence searches, and human scent discrimination tracking. Both Master Police Officer Glover, and K-9 Jacky are now ready to patrol the streets of Southern Pines.
“We are pleased to have K-9 Jacky as part of the Southern Pines Police Department’s K-9 Unit. Our citizens will be well served with our full complement of four highly skilled and trained canines on the force,” said Chief Bob Temme.
Master Police Officer Michael Glover is a nine year veteran of law enforcement. K-9 Jacky is Officer Glover’s second police dog with the Southern Pines Police Department. Jacky replaces Officer Glover’s previous partner, K-9 Elvis who was recently medically retired.
The purchase of K-9 Jacky came at no cost to the taxpayers of the Town of Southern Pines. K-9 Jacky was purchased using asset forfeiture monies seized from suspects involved in the possession, manufacture and sale of illegal narcotics in Southern Pines and Moore County. K-9 Jacky will continue in the tradition of his colleagues, and generate asset forfeiture revenue that will be used to further the vision and mission of the Southern Police Department.
K-9 Jacky will be officially introduced at the start of the Town Council regular meeting on June 13, 2017, at 7:00 pm at the Douglass Community Center located at 1185 West Pennsylvania Avenue, Southern Pines, NC. The community is invited to join the Southern Pines Police Department as Mayor David McNeill administers an oath of office to K-9 Jacky during a brief ceremony at the start of the council meeting.
