Student-Athlete Spotlight: Max Campbell

Max Campbell – at a young age – has made a habit of succeeding. In the eighth grade at West Pine Middle, Max has been excelling in wrestling for the Wildcats since last year. This season, Max is 3-0 in the conference. Overall, he has a 3-2 record.

Last year, his first as a member of the wrestling team, he finished 8-2 overall.

“They let me join late,” Max said. “We had good coaches. We had a conference tournament where we came in second. It was a good first season.”

Once the wrestling season ended, Max played travel basketball.

“I was pretty big into basketball. I’ve played since I was a really young kid,” he said. “I still play basketball.”

In the fall, Max started on the football team for West Pine. It’s something he plans on continuing at Pinecrest High School.

“I was quarterback for the football team this year,” he said. “I was backup quarterback last year.”

With Max under center, the Wildcats went 6-1.

Considering his involvement in sports, it would seem keeping pace in the classroom would be evasive. That’s far from the case. Max has been an A-student at West Pine, where his favorite subject is history.

Being in middle school, Max has a while before decisions about a career path become more pressing. It’s not something, however, he doesn’t think about.

“I want a job in football, or in sports in general,” he said.

A drive to do his best makes it a safe bet he’ll meet whatever objectives he sets.

“There’s just the need to be good at something,” Max said. “I just want to be better than the guy across from me.”

Support and interest from family up the odds we’ll be hearing good things from Max down the road.

“I workout with my dad. We do a good job of going the days we can,” he said. “Either going to the gym or going out for a run.”

When not competing on the mat, field, or court, Max likes spending time with friends and family.
