Suspect accused of stealing firearm in police custody

Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields announced the arrest of an individual following an investigation in the Aberdeen area.

On Dec. 6, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the larceny of a firearm from a residence in the Aberdeen area. On Dec. 11, sheriff’s investigators arrested John Peters, 50, of Aberdeen, in connection with the larceny.

Peters has been charged with one count of larceny of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, obtaining property by false pretense, and soliciting the unlawful purchase of a firearm.

He was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $100,000 secure bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2025, in Moore County district court.
