Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields reports that investigators are searching for a suspect following an assault in Westmoore on Highway 705 on Monday.
“At around 9:15 p.m., a 31-year-old male entered the store seeking help after sustaining severe burns in what appears to be a deliberate attack,” said Fields in a news release regarding the victim being left at the Dollar General. “EMS personnel transported the victim to the burn center in Chapel Hill for further treatment. Investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading to the attack.”
Witnesses reported to Sandhills Sentinel that they had heard a person within the vehicle yelling from the car before they drove off and left him in the parking lot. The man then reportedly entered the Dollar General in search of help before exiting the store again.Â
The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Travis Pierce of Asheboro.
“Pierce is believed to be an associate of the victim and is currently wanted for various assault charges related to the incident,” said Fields.
Anyone with information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 910-947-2931 or the anonymous tip line at 910-947-4444.
