Three-vehicle collision in Eastwood sends one person to hospital

A three-vehicle collision shut down a busy intersection and significantly disrupted the Friday evening commute for drivers in Eastwood. The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. and took first responders over an hour to clear.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which was investigating the scene, a BMW traveling north on Murdocksville Road attempted to cross N.C. Highway 73 but failed to yield to a westbound Hyundai Elantra traveling on the highway. The two vehicles collided, resulting in significant front-end damage to both and blocking the intersection.

A GMC truck, which was stopped at the intersection while traveling southbound on Murdocksville Road, was struck when the impact spun the Hyundai around, causing it to collide with the front of the truck.

The female driver of the Hyundai was the only person injured in the collision. She was transported to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection was shut down, and traffic was diverted southbound onto Murdocksville Road while crews worked to clear the scene and remove the vehicles.

Responding units included the Eastwood Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Sheriff’s Office, and N.C. Highway Patrol.
