Two charged in Carthage drug investigation

Two men are facing charges following a drug investigation in the Carthage area.

“On November 19, 2024, detectives concluded a drug investigation in the 1000 block of Monroe Street in Carthage, where prescription medication was found to be illegally distributed,” wrote the Moore County Sheriff’s Office in a press release.

During the investigation, detectives seized several controlled substances, including suspected Suboxone, Xanax, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.

Mitchell Goins, 40, of Carthage, was arrested and faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule III controlled substance, delivery of a Schedule III controlled substance, felony possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Goins was given a $100,000 secured bond, with a court date set for Dec.18. 

Travis Alfred, 49, of Fayetteville, was also arrested and faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Alfred’s secured bond was set at $10,000. He is due a court on Dec. 18.
