Traffic stalled on a busy stretch of U.S. 15-501 when two vehicles collided and veered into a ditch in Carthage Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 1 p.m. near Carthage Animal Hospital. Authorities at the scene told Sandhills Sentinel that a white minivan leaving the animal hospital pulled into the path of a red sedan traveling north on U.S. 15-501. The vehicles then sideswiped one another, and both came to rest in a nearby ditch.
No other vehicles were involved.
The driver of the sedan was transported by EMS to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. The driver of the minivan was not injured and remained at the scene with authorities.
Traffic was backed up in the area while crews worked to clear the vehicles. Traffic was safely diverted around the crash site as vehicles were removed and the scene was investigated.
Carthage Police and Carthage Fire and Rescue assisted the N.C. State Highway Patrol at the scene.
