The Aberdeen Police Department announced the arrest of Maranda Miles, 36, of Bennettsville, South Carolina. On Sept. 10, 2024, Aberdeen officers responded to Going, Going, Gone! in reference to a subject who was allegedly concealing merchandise inside the store.
“As officers arrived, the female, later identified as Miles, was walking out the door with the concealed merchandise, as she set off the security alarm,” said the Aberdeen Police Department in a press release. “Officers detained her as they investigated and obtained witness statements. It was determined that Miles had stolen nearly $300 worth of merchandise from the store, and she had a warrant for Failure to Appear out of Columbus County.”
Miles was arrested for shoplifting and the outstanding warrant, at which point she was searched incident to arrest. During the search, officers located a glass pipe containing suspected drug residue, a straw, and two bags containing a white powdery substance underneath her clothing. They also located two bags containing suspected marijuana in her pocket.
Miles was charged at that time with misdemeanor larceny, possession of stolen goods, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The bags containing the white powdery substance were submitted to the State Crime Lab for testing.
On Dec. 17, 2024, the lab results confirmed the substance was methamphetamine, and a warrant was obtained on Miles for felony possession of methamphetamine. On March 23, Miles was located by the Rockingham Police Department and served with the warrant.
Miles was taken before a Richmond County Magistrate, where she was given a $2,500 secured bond.
