Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills is expanding into West End and Seven Lakes. The nonprofit is currently seeking volunteers to help in delivering meals one or more times a week and in search of donations to help pay for the meals.

Meals on Wheels has been in Moore County for over 45 years. The concentration has primarily been in the Southern part of the county with nine teams of volunteers, but as demand has shown in other areas the organization is ready to expand.

Rebecca Listrom, the Executive Director and sole employee of Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills, said she is in need of 10 or more volunteers in the Seven Lakes/West End area to help those that are house bound receive a warm meal each day.

Rebecca explained, “Having a team that is dedicated to helping deliver meals, coordinate food transport to and from Penick Village in Southern Pines to Seven Lakes, assist with calls and returning emails, and help collect donations is essential for our sustainability in Moore County.”

A team of 2019 Moore County Leadership Institute (MCLI) participants, Annelise O’Connor, Chris Miller, Glenn Moore and Malorie Wolf, have taken on the challenge of giving back to Moore County by helping Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills build a volunteer base in the West End/Seven Lakes area for their leadership project. MCLI, a Chamber of Commerce leadership class, is celebrating their 30th year in Moore County. The mission of MCLI is for each participant to ‘Discover, Expand, Grow and Serve’.

The #FeedMoore MCLI small group is committed to helping Meals on Wheels of the Sandhills by recruiting volunteers to serve as the tenth MOW volunteer team and helping collect donations to pay the $3.75 per meal fee for community members in need.
