After retiring from the Army, Billy Wambles wasn’t sure what the next chapter of his life would look like. But with a nudge from his wife, Dauphine, and an eye for practical solutions, he launched Tipper Solutions LLC: a veteran-owned, short-term dumpster trailer service designed to simplify the way people deal with waste.
Tipper Solutions currently serves a 40-mile radius around Southern Pines, offering half-day to week-long rentals for homeowners and businesses alike. Whether a family is clearing out an attic or a contractor needs debris removed from a job site, Billy’s team makes the process straightforward.
“The goal is simple: make it easy,” Billy said. “We’re always adjusting based on customers’ needs.”
Billy developed the idea for Tipper Solutions not long after retiring from the Army.
“Like a lot of veterans, I was trying to figure out what the next chapter looked like,” he recalled. “My wife, Dauphine, has experience running a small business and was a big part of helping me develop the idea for a short-term dumpster trailer service.”
Billy recognized the need for this service in the area. He and his family have been in North Carolina since 2003 and made the move to Moore County in 2014.
Tipper Solutions is not only veteran-owned and operated, but every member of the team has also served in the military. Billy said that includes two retired Army veterans and one retired from the Coast Guard.
The company’s name, Tipper Solutions, comes from the unique way its trailers operate. Unlike traditional roll-off dumpsters, Billy’s 14-cubic-yard dump trailers are more maneuverable and driveway-friendly, designed to tip back to unload. According to Billy, that difference isn’t just mechanical, it’s central to what makes the service stand out.
However, Billy also joked that he “wanted a name that sounded more approachable and professional than something with the word ‘dump’ in it.”
Because of this difference in design, Tipper Solutions is able to offer additional services, including bulk material delivery, appliance removal, and equipment hauling.
One of Billy’s “tipping” trailers in action.
“Whether it’s yard debris, construction waste, or household junk, we bring the trailer right to them and place it exactly where they need it,” said Billy as he explained the process. “No need to rent a truck or trailer themselves—we take care of all the hauling and disposal. It’s hassle-free and saves them time and energy.”
Tipper Solutions provides half-day, single-day, and multi-day trailer rentals, with options up to seven days. Customers load at their convenience, and the team handles pickup and disposal. The business also offers curbside bulk item removal and coordination of loading assistance upon request.
Most of Tipper’s customers are homeowners doing cleanouts—basements, garages, attics, or remodeling projects, but they’ve also worked with local businesses, contractors, and shop owners who need to dispose of waste or move bulky items but don’t have the means to do it themselves
Tipper Solutions also makes sure to follow disposal guidelines at the local, state, and federal levels. They can’t take liquids like paint, oil, fuel, or even water, nor can they dispose of biohazards, pressurized tanks, or hazardous chemicals. They do make sure to accordingly keep waste sorted into three categories: yard waste, household trash, and construction debris.
“That said, with some advance coordination, we can usually handle special items like appliances that require different disposal steps,” assured Billy.
Billy admitted that one of his proudest moments has been showing his children what it means to build something from the ground up. “They’re my biggest cheerleaders and motivation,” he said.
Outside of running the business from his home in Southern Pines, Billy enjoys working on side projects with his kids, including building a submersible tethered camera setup, and tinkering in the garage. He also spends time fishing and camping at state parks whenever the schedule allows.
When asked what his favorite part of the journey has been so far, Billy answered, “Honestly, it’s being able to help people tackle what feels like a huge task—clearing out clutter or debris. Seeing the relief on a client’s face when we give them a simple, effective solution is what I enjoy most.”
