3-vehicle crash causes car to overturn

A three-vehicle crash involving one that overturned caused major traffic backups on N.C. Highway 5 in Pinehurst Wednesday afternoon.

Pinehurst Police investigating the crash said a BMW was traveling north on Hwy 5 when it failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Monticello Drive.

A Lexus had begun to cross the intersection onto Hwy 5 when the BMW ran into it. The force of the crash caused the Lexus to overturn, colliding with a Hyundai Elantra.

Both the BMW and Lexus sustained heavy damage and had to be towed. The Elantra had minor damage.

There were no reported injuries during the crash.

Pinehurst Police closed the northbound lane of Hwy 5 at Monticello Drive while Monticello was closed completely at Parker Lane to the stoplight at Hwy 5.

Responding to the crash were Pinehurst Police Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, and Moore County EMS.
