Officials talk safety concerns on Highway 15-501, Pee Dee Road

A fatal collision in Aberdeen involving a car and a flatbed truck hauling lumber shut down the intersection of Highway 15-501 and Pee Dee Road around noon on Tuesday.

The crash left the flatbed truck lodged horizontally across the highway, blocking traffic in both directions. A sedan was wedged under the truck.

Per radio traffic, air care was initially requested but later canceled due to the driver of the sedan, Jessica Kyle, passing away on the scene. Authorities did not release the name of the woman.

The cause of the collision is unconfirmed at this time and is under investigation.

Traffic was diverted as authorities investigated the crash and worked to clear the wreckage.

Rockwell Towing arrived to pull the sedan out from under the flatbed with a winch.

This is the second fatal wreck Sandhills Sentinel has covered in this area in less than a month. A truck driver died at that scene on Nov. 30.

A GoFundMe page has been created for Kyle’s young sons.
