Accident in Carthage claims life

A traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck has claimed the life of a local man. The accident happened Thursday around 3 p.m. on Highway 15-501 in front of KareFree Farm in Carthage.

The man and his son were traveling north on a motorcycle when they hit the back of a Toyota Tacoma. The impact sent the pickup across the road into a ditch. Emergency units were on scene quickly and began CPR on the driver of the motorcycle.

Two helicopters were initially called to airlift the two males to a trauma center but were later canceled, and they were transported to Moore Regional Hospital. The man died a short time later. The son’s condition is unknown as of this report.

The two women in the pickup were transported to Moore Regional Hospital to be checked out.

Highway 15-501 was shut down for over an hour at Savannah Gardens Drive and South McNeill Street while crews worked the scene and the roadway could be cleared.

Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Responding to the scene were Carthage Fire Department, Carthage Police Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Public Safety, Moore County Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol.

Rockwell Towing removed the Toyota Tacoma.
