A two-vehicle accident left one car on fire and an SUV overturned in Southern Pines Saturday. The accident occurred at the intersection of Saunders Blvd. and Highway 1 at 10:20 a.m.
When emergency crews arrived on the scene within minutes, they found a passenger car on fire in the engine compartment, and a Ford SUV overturned beside a pickup truck that was at the stoplight. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.Â
One victim was immediately transported by EMS to Moore Regional Hospital. A second ambulance was later called for another victim requiring transport.
Due to the severity of the crash, rescue crews from Southern Pines and Aberdeen responded to the scene.
Northbound lanes of Highway 1 were shut down for approximately 40 minutes.
Southern Pines Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
Responding to the scene were Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, and Southern Pines Police Department.
