The Moore County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the loss of its K-9, Roki, who died Oct. 9 after a brief but serious illness, according to Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields in a news advisory.
Roki was a valuable member of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office team. Roki recently took part in the successful search of a missing elderly woman suffering from a cognitive disorder.
The woman was reported missing from her home in Carthage just before 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, said Fields in a previous news statement.
Deputy handler Kevin Dean and Roki were called to the scene in rainy weather.
“Within 40 minutes from the time deputies arrived on scene, K-9 ROKI ran a successful track that led to the victim being found in a nearby field,” said Fields. “This was a great effort by all Deputies involved and the victim was returned to her family safe and secure.”
Fields is asking residents to keep members of the department in their thoughts.
“Please keep Roki’s Handler, Deputy Kevin Dean, and other members of the Moore County Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts and prayers,” said Fields.
