On Wednesday, September 4, the Sandhills Woman’s Exchange will reopen for the 98th season. During this busy summer, the Board has implemented a new Point of Sale program, received new and favorite artisans into the refurbished gift shop, welcomed a new General Manager Nancy Bogan, and new landscaped gardens.
The gardens are compliments of a generous donation in memory of Bob Tweed by his wife, Lorraine. A ribbon/flower cutting dedication of the gardens will be scheduled this fall.

A native of the New England area, Nancy Bogan is the new General Manager of the cabin. She and her husband have visited the Sandhills area for three years, fell in love, and have just moved to Pinehurst for good.
Bogan recently left her career with TJX, the parent company for HomeGoods, Homesense, Marshalls, TJMaxx and Sierra Trading. During her 21 years with the company, she traveled extensively overseas to develop business partnerships in Italy, Portugal, Vietnam, India, Spain, Czech Republic and the UK.
“I’m looking forward to the collaborating experience with all the members of the SWE team and helping to grow the interest in preserving the cabin history and outreach in the community,” she commented.
Bogan is excited to live in Pinehurst where her interests include golf, gardening and DIY craft projects. “We’re looking forward to settling into our life here, making new friends and learning more about all that North Carolina has to offer.”

In addition to the new outside look and new GM, the new Artisan Chair, Leslie Smith, is sending out a call to all artisans who may be interested in displaying their goods at the SWE.
A committee reviews the items submitted and once accepted, the artisan receives 60% of the selling price, and the cabin receives 40% for historical upkeep of the 1810 cabin. For an artisan packet, go to www.sandhillswe.org.
The consignment process accepts unique quality handcrafted items from both local and national crafters. All consignment items should be brought to the SWE in August beginning each Monday – Friday, from August 5- 12; and Tuesday – Friday, August 27 – 30. Times for the receipt of these items will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In September, the regular drop off dates stated in the online Artisan Packet will take effect. No merchandise will be accepted on any date or time except as noted. For questions, contact the Artisan Chair, Leslie Smith, at [email protected]
Several fall fundraising events are planned to include: a Sip & Paint on Sept 23 at Hollyhocks Art Gallery; craft events in October at the cabin; Santa Visit on Nov 23; and ‘Tea Time on the Train’ December 8. The Board members for the SWE non-profit year include Co-presidents Barb Summers and Marie Carbrey, Kathleen Causey, Anne Wright, Judie Wiggins, Elizabeth Toomey, Bev Reynolds, Patti Talton, and Leslie Smith. Advisors to the board include: Cav Peterson, Ron Rhody, Joyce Reehling, Amanda Jakl, Audrey Moriarty, John Strickland and Laurie Bogart Wiles.

Upon the reopening Sept. 4, the hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chef Katrina lunches are served from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m.
