Car crashes into UPS truck

Both drivers walked away uninjured after a car collided with the rear of a UPS truck near Lobelia. The crash happened on Lakebay Road at the intersection with Campbell Trail just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to officials, a Chevrolet Malibu traveling west on Lakebay Road collided with the rear of a UPS truck that was pulled over onto the shoulder of the road but partially blocked the travel lane.

The impact was so hard that it pushed the rear of the UPS truck over a few inches and caused the car to overturn. The car’s passenger door was ripped off in the crash and was lying in the road behind the truck.

The UPS driver was in the back of the truck, held on shelving units during impact, and was uninjured.

N.C. Highway Patrol was on the scene investigating the crash.

This was just one of several accidents across our area today. While Sandhills Sentinel was on scene covering this crash, another wreck occurred near Carthage on Highway 15-501 just north of the Trax station, where a vehicle ran off the road and overturned, leaving a power pole broken in half.
