Car crashes into Southern Pines gas station

Business for a Southern Pines gas station came to a grinding halt on Tuesday, Dec. 28, when a Chevrolet Camaro came crashing through the gas station’s glass doors.

Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, first responders received a report that a vehicle had crashed into the front of the Circle K on Highway 1 and Council Way.

According to first responders, the driver of the vehicle mistakenly thought that he had put his car into reverse. Instead of backing up, the driver accelerated over the curb and into the doors of the gas station.

Luckily, no one at the scene was injured. The driver and his only passenger, his dog, were both fine. No customers or employees had been near the entrance at the time of the wreck. The front end of the Camaro sustained minimal damage.

The Aberdeen Fire Department, Aberdeen Police Department, and the Southern Pines Police Department were on the scene. The inside of the gas station was cleared out of customers and employees while first responders assessed the damages.

The gas station and pumps are closed for business until repairs have been made for the safety of the customers.
