A crash involving a vehicle that overturned closed one lane of U.S. Highway 1 during the rush hour on Wednesday afternoon.
According to troopers, a Nissan and a bobtail truck were traveling southbound near Westover Road in Southern Pines when the truck driver attempted to merge into the right lane. The bobtail clipped the Nissan traveling in the right lane. The Nissan went off the right shoulder, hit a steep embankment, and flipped onto its roof.
The two passengers of the Nissan had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
First responders with the Southern Pines Fire Department closed down the right southbound lane of U.S. 1 while troopers with the Highway Patrol investigated.
The driver of the bobtail was cited with improper lane change.
