Moore’s Keep Christian Camp celebrated a major milestone Thursday with the ribbon-cutting of its new dormitory, marking the completion of phase two in the camp’s three-phase development plan.
The camp, located in Robbins on 200 acres of secluded woodland and bordered on three sides by Bear Creek, has been expanding its facilities since opening. When they finished constructing the pavilion for games, recreation, meetings, and a canteen in 2019, it changed from phase three to phase one.
“It’s all in God’s timing, and He decided phase one should come first,” said Camp Director Tom Lewis.
The newly completed dormitory will allow Moore’s Keep to host year-round camps and retreats, including couples’ retreats, young adult weekends, conferences, and more. Previously, the camp relied on military tents for lodging, allowing camps to be scheduled only during the summer.
The new building features 10 dorm rooms, each equipped with four bunks, a half bathroom, and a separate shower room. Large communal bathrooms with multiple stalls and showers are also located on the first floor of the dorms.
Additional features include a nurse’s room and separate living spaces for both the boys’ and girls’ dorm wings. At the center of the facility sits a rugged, lodge-style gathering hall used for chapel services and dining, complete with a full kitchen.
Last year marked the camp’s largest summer in its 11-year history, hosting six weeks of programs at the Moore’s Keep property. They project that next year will be even bigger, with seven weeks already scheduled. A group has booked the facility for a young adult retreat, making it the first group to occupy the new dormitory.
Pastors from across the area gathered to pray over and dedicate the building, including Sammy Frye and state Rep. Neal Jackson. Multiple elected officials were also in attendance, such as Sheriff Ronnie Fields, county commissioners Jim Von Canon and John Ritter, and state Sen. Tom McInnis. Town Manager Clint Mack represented Robbins, among others.
The next phase of the development plan will feature a large castle structure, with more dorms to be built in the field in front of the new dorms.
Camp Victory at Moore’s Keep is now accepting registrations for the upcoming summer season.
