Collision delays school traffic

A two-vehicle collision delayed school traffic in Vass on Tuesday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a wreck at Vass Carthage Road and U.S. 1 Business. During this time of the day, Vass-Lakeveiw Elementary is starting to release students, and traffic is usually heavy.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue Department arrived to find a two-vehicle collision, with one vehicle having heavy damage. Air care had initially been put on standby for potentially life-threatening injuries but canceled by arriving responders.

The first vehicle was a Toyota Corolla occupied by the driver only. She was evaluated by Moore County EMS and transported to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle was a Ford Super Duty pickup truck, hauling a John Deere excavator, and was occupied by the driver only. He reported no injuries.

The intersection was completely blocked by debris and the heavily damaged Corolla. A temporary lane was created through the neighboring businesses’ parking lots. This caused more traffic delays during the busy day. All traffic was directed around the crash while the incident was investigated, patients were evaluated, debris was cleaned up, and vehicles were removed from the road.

Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue Department, Vass Police Department, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and Moore County EMS responded to this incident.
